Our family is saying goodbye to a wife and mother who left us Thursday evening, May 17, in Macon, Georgia. Rita Minter, 73, died this week after a monthslong illness. She was with her family when she passed away.

Funeral services will be held 11am, Tuesday, May 22nd in the chapel at Hart’s Mortuary in downtown Macon. The Reverend Creede Hinshaw, retired Methodist minister will officiate. Family visitation begins before the service at 10am.

Rita was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1944 to Jack and Lucille Yarbrough. She met her future husband, Paul Minter, in high school after moving to Griffin, Georgia, as a young girl.

Rita and her family have lived in Macon for 51 years. Rita graduated from Macon Junior College and went on to teach in the dental hygiene program there after completing her degree at Georgia College in Milledgeville. She earned a master’s degree in counseling from Fort Valley State University and later worked with inmates at a Georgia correctional institution before retiring from the Bibb County School District.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved older sister, Joy Maner.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Paul Minter; her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Charlie Moore; and her son, Keith Minter. She is also survived by her sister, Belle Alderman of Canberra, Australia, her sister-in law, Susan Minter, of Augusta, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Mulberry Methodist Church in Macon or the charity of your choice.
