Richard Grove Newman

Richard Grove (Dick) Newman passed away Friday, April 22, 2011 of metastatic melanoma diagnosed in July 2010. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Vineville United Methodist Church. Burial will be private. Dr. Marcus Tripp will officiate. Mr. Newman was the son of the late Richard Berryman and Dorothy Earl Grove Newman of Winchester, Virginia. He was born in Winchester, Virginia on March 28, 1940 and spent his boyhood years in Woodstock and Staunton, Virginia. He graduated from Augusta Military Academy in Fort Defiance in 1961, served four years in the United States Marine Corps from which he was discharged at Albany, Georgia in July of 1967. He has been a resident of Macon for the past 34 years. Mr. Newman was a sales representative with Confederate Packaging for 23 years. He traveled Georgia selling boxes for 34 years. He coached youth baseball at North Macon Park in the Dixie Youth League; was a former member of the Riverside Optimist Club serving a term as president and term as district lieutenant governor; was president of the Mt. DeSales Athletic and Literary Association 1991-1992. He was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church and the Allen Sanders Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Paula Moore Newman; two daughters, and sons-in-law, Jenny and Jeff Meyers of Fayetteville, Ga.; Dotti and Gary Morgan of Macon; one son, Rick Newman of Macon; one granddaughter, Maddie Meyers of Fayetteville, Ga.; a sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Julian Bullock of Greensboro, North Carolina; a brother, Walt Newman of Roanoke, Virginia ; brother and sister-in-law, David and Bonnie Newman of Concord, North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews. In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Vineville United Methodist Church, 2045 Vineville Ave. Macon, Ga. 31204; or to Caring Bridge @ caringbridge.org.
