Rex Joseph Dagley

February 28, 1947 — January 31, 2023

Macon

Rex Joseph Dagley, 75, of Macon, GA, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends.  A funeral mass will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Church followed by a gathering of family and friends in the church Social Hall.  In lieu of flowers, Rex would appreciate donations to Daybreak, 174 Walnut St, Macon GA, 31201, an organization dedicated to working with churches to help the homeless.

Born in Macon, Georgia, Rex was the middle son of the late Joseph Abner and Gwyneth Margaret Lloyd Dagley.  He was a rambunctious child filled with a love for all things outdoors and fast cars.  He graduated from Willingham High School in 1965.  Soon after graduating, he was drafted into the United States Army.  Upon returning home, Rex married his high school sweetheart, Camille, and was hired by Norfolk Southern Railroad.  He devoted 40 years to Norfolk Southern, working his way up to superintendent of the Charlotte Yard in North Carolina.  After retiring, Rex finally did something for himself when he purchased a 1965 Chevy Corvette.  He spent years lovingly restoring it.

Rex was wise.  Much of the wisdom he shared was learned on his own.  Rex was curious and adventurous.  He loved the simplicity and beauty of nature and encouraged his daughters to spend time enjoying those simple things in life.

Family was everything to Rex.  Often, he met his brother Roger for morning walks and breakfast.

Rex was the best father; with few words he conveyed his love in subtle yet powerful ways.  Most important was that he was always there.  He sacrificed to ensure all four of his daughters would have a Catholic education and college degree.  He loved celebrating holidays; never passing up the opportunity to scare his daughters on Halloween, hand-picking sweet treats on Valentine’s Day, filling their Easter baskets to the brim, and buying the latest, greatest, coolest gift for Christmas.

He loved being a grandfather! Some of his greatest joy came from traveling with his grandchildren and attending sporting events.  “PawPaw” will forever be cherished and remembered by his grandchildren.

He was fortunate to have extraordinary lifelong friends: Harry, Kenny, and Joe to name a few.  Rex, Harry, and Kenny met on a regular basis to hangout and restore old cars.

A devout Catholic, Rex attended mass regularly at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Rex was selfless.  He believed strongly in helping others.  He volunteered, feeding the homeless and adopted families in need at Christmas.  Everyone who knew Rex knew he could be depended on for help, anytime, anywhere.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dagley was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Dagley.

Mr. Dagley is survived by the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Camille Therese Dagley of Lizella; daughters, Suzanne Zimmermann (David) of Fripp Island, South Carolina, Lynda Dagley (Chris Brame) of Bishop, Georgia, Christa Dagley (Pascal Berrill) of South Lake Tahoe, California, and Cassandra King (Robert Eggers) of Monroe, Georgia; grandchildren, Maddy Zimmermann, and Sydney and Caleb King; and younger brother, Roger Dagley of Gray, Georgia.

Hart’s at the Cupola, Hart's Mortuary and Cremation Center, 6324 Peake Rd, Macon, GA 31210 has charge of the arrangements.
