R.C Plumlee

Macon-R. C. Plumlee of Macon, GA, formerly of Atlanta, died November 15, 2008. Richard Carl Plumlee, known to family and friends as "Took", was born on January 23, 1932 in Bogaloosa, LA. From Louisiana, the Plumlees lived in Portland, Oregon for several years and then moved to Crossett, Arkansas. It was there that he enjoyed riding his quarter horse over the countryside, in parades, and for his paper route. He also joined the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He later attended Admiral Farragut Military Academy in St. Petersburg, FL for two years. After moving to Macon, GA, he graduated from Lanier High School in 1949. He also graduated from the Georgia School of Technology in 1954 where he was a member of Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity. Mr. Plumlee started his real estate career with Adair Realty in Atlanta and became a Senior Vice President and manager in the Investment Department. He started Plumlee Realty in 1977, where he specialized in downtown properties. Mr. Plumlee was one of the first recipients of the Phoenix Award, and three times was awarded the Alvin Cates Award (by the Atlanta Board of Realtors) for the most outstanding real estate transaction for conception, development, and completion of said transaction. A favorite accomplishment of his was putting together a downtown block of properties that became Woodruff Park. Mr. Plumlee was a member of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association, where he was trustee from 1978-1982,Lamda Chi Alpha Alumni Association, Atlanta Board of Realtors, Buckhead Lions Club where he was one of the original founders of the annual golf tournament for Egleston Children's Hospital. Mr. Plumlee was a member of Capital City Club and Idle Hour Country Club. Additional interests included the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the National Wildlife Association. Mr. Plumlee enjoyed playing golf, he was "Big Band" music enthusiast, an avid bird watcher, and enjoyed gardening. Mr. Plumlee was preceded in death by his father, James Carl Plumlee. He is survived by his wife of fifty two years, Beverly Cameron Gradick Plumlee, of Macon, GA, daughter, Leslie Plumlee Davis, and son in law, Paul E. Davis, of Atlanta, GA, mother, Mattie Reed Plumlee, sister Sylvia Kolb, and nephew Richard Carl Kolb of Palm Harbor, FL. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19 th from 3-4 PM at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, Peake Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in his memory to The Salvation Army, GA Division Headquarters, 1000 Center Place, Norcross, GA 30093, or the charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to thank United Hospice for their loving care and particularly his caregivers Deloris and Linda. A graveside service will be held at All Soul's Cemetery in Sanford, FL at a later date. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory at the Cupola is in charge of arrangements.
