Raymond Carroll Smith

Macon- Raymond Carroll Smith, 86, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Heartland Hospice House of Macon. Services will be held Friday, October 10,2008 at 11:00 A.M., Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street with interment in Macon Memorial Park. Dr. James Dant and Mr. Mike Miles will officiate. Mr. Smith was born October 16, 1921 to the late Edward Perry Smith and Mattie Clance Smith. He was a retired automobile salesman having been associated with Barney A. Smith Motors for many years. A graduate of Lanier High School, Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II, was a member of the Georgia Army National Guard, attained a degree in Military Science from the U.S. Command & Staff College and retired from the Guard in 1975 with the rank of Brigadier General. Mr. Smith was a member of North Macon Church of Christ and the Macon Exchange Club having served as President of the Bibb County Club. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Ruth Davis Smith, son Raymond C. "Ricky" Smith, Jr. (Suzann), daughter, Susan S. Jones (Girard), grandchildren Aimee Jones, Jennifer Jones, Girard Jones, Jr. (Mindy), Clay Waddell (Andi), Bart Smith, a great grandchild, Hannah Carroll Waddell, a sister Hilda Joy Smith and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street from 5:00-7:00 and may be contacted at the home of Susan and Girard Jones, 327 Wesley Circle, Macon. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to North Macon Church of Christ, 1190 Bass Road, Macon, GA 31210 or the donor's choice. Online register is located at www.hartsmort.com. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street has charge of arrangements.
