Raymond Lewis Rosson

Raymond Lewis Rosson was born to O.B. and Carrie Rosson in Williamsport, Tennessee, on the Duck River in Murray County outside of Columbia, Tennessee. He was born on January 2, 1924. He married Helene Humphrey in 1944. Helene and Raymond have been married for 68 years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, returning home to Columbia as a union carpenter before moving to Florida to build homes. He returned to Macon to assist in building Macon Neon's building on Gray Highway. In 1956 he began bending neon and started Rosson Sign Company at Cochran Field moving in the early 60s to Houston Ave, building his first building in 1966 at 1754 Houston Avenue. In 1972 he moved the business to its present location at 3071 Broadway. Mr. Rosson built, serviced and installed on-premise business identification signs. He continued in the business until having a heart attack in 1988, at which time he semi-retired and moved to Port Armour at Lake Oconee, where he continued to bend neon. In 1992 his wife asked they return to Macon to be with their family and near their church. He built his final home and had resided at 136 Howard Oaks Drive since 1992. Raymond Rosson was a deacon at Mikado Baptist Church until 1965, Mabel White Baptist Church until 1970, at which time they moved to Ingleside Baptist. Upon returning to Macon, they attended Cherokee Heights Baptist and Wesleyan Drive Baptist. He taught men's Sunday school from 1964 until 2004. He was an avid golfer and member of Idle Hour Club since 1994. Raymond was a fine Christian man with high moral and ethical standards, and was a dynamic soul winner. The Lord allowed us to have him eleven additional years after suffering an aortic aneurism in 2002. Mr. Rosson is survived by his wife, Helene Rosson; his daughter, Janis Rosson Altizer of Peachtree City, and her two sons, Todd Altizer, wife Alysia, and Jeff Altizer, and wife Lauren. Jeff has four children. Raymond is also survived by his son, Jack T. Rosson, CEO of Rosson Sign Company, and his wife, Jan H. Rosson of Macon. They have two children, Rebekah Elizabeth Hill, whose husband is Jonathan and their daughter Mary Evelyn. Jack and Jan also have a son, John Thomas Rosson. Mr. Rosson is also survived by 4 great granddaughters and 1 great grandson. The Lord called Mr. Rosson home following a heart attack early Saturday morning. He passed away peacefully. Funeral services will be held at 1:30PM Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the chapel of Hart's at the Cupola with the Reverend Norman Carter officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Macon Memorial Park. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
