Raymond Ballard

Raymond Ballard, 83, of Macon, GA, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2023, in the chapel at Ingleside Baptist Church.  The family will greet friends Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hart’s at the Cupola.  Burial will follow the service at Macon Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Rd, Macon, GA 31210 or Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia, 774 Hazel St., Macon, GA 31201.

Son of the late Joe Brown and Hallie Lavenia Arnold Ballard, Mr. Ballard was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church and the Bowman Crowley Sunday School Class. Upon graduating from Lanier High School in 1958, he entered the United States Army where he served 8 years.  Following his faithful service to his country, he and his brother, Walter Ballard, founded Ballard Brothers Electric Company, Macon Lighting Center, Ballard Brothers Alarm Company, and Ballard Brothers Ice Company.

Mr. Ballard was known for his hard work and entrepreneurial spirit.  In addition to his love for Christ and his family, he was passionate about his farm in Peach County.  He found great pleasure in teaching his grandchildren the value of farming and stewardship of the land.

Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Shumans Ballard, brothers Walter E. Ballard, Sr. and Bobby Joe Ballard, and sister, Annette Ragan.

Mr. Ballard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jimmie Annette Shumans Ballard of Macon; children, Raymond O. Ballard, Jr. (Penny), Rana Ballard Thigpin (John), and L. Brian Ballard (Sara),  daughter in law Jennifer Rutledge Ballard, all of Macon; grandchildren, Raymond O. Ballard, III (Tindal), Amelia Ballard Thomason (Tyler), Allie Ballard, John Gordon Thigpin, Wimberly Thigpin, Morris and Cate Ballard, AnaGrace Ballard, Samuel Ballard; brother, Larry Ballard (Patsy) of Lizella; and numerous nieces and nephews.
