Ranjit Sinha M.D., Fellow Royal College of Physicians (Canada), 85, of Eastman, GA passed away on October 13, 2017. Dr. Sinha was born in the state of Bihar, India to the late Bipin P. Saran and Dhanoo Prasad. He graduated from Patna Medical School in 1956 and received his M.B.B.S degree. He then completed his internship in pediatrics and started his first assignment in Bengabad for the Government of Bihar. Subsequently, he returned to Patna and worked at the Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Patna City, and then taught patho-physiology at Ranchi Medical College, which is now in Jharkhand. In 1961, Dr. Sinha successfully received certification of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), which allows international medical graduates to enter residency programs in the United States. In January of 1965, he began his pediatric residency at Morristown Hospital in New Jersey. In 1967, Dr. Sinha decided to transfer to psychiatry, and started his residency at Ancora State Hospital in Hammonton, NJ. Dr. Sinha moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in December 1969 for further psychiatric training at Dalhousie University and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1971. In 1972, he received his U.S. Board Certification in Psychiatry and Neurology. In September 1974, Dr. Sinha relocated back to the United States to practice at St. Clair Medical Center in Morehead, KY. He opened a new psychiatric unit at St. Clair and also was the Medical Director at Cave Run Community Mental Health Center. In 1988, he moved to Eastman, GA to open the psychiatric unit at Dodge County Hospital. He practiced psychiatry in Eastman, GA for over 25 years, and was Medical Director for the Middle Georgia Mental Health Center in Dublin, GA for 10 years. In addition, he served as an adjunct faculty member for the Department of Psychiatry at Mercer University Medical School. In 1991, Dr. Sinha received certification from the American Board of Quality and Utilization Review Physicians. He was deeply committed to health care quality and management and served 2 terms as Chief of Staff at Dodge County Hospital. After retirement, he was an avid reader and wrote prolifically about his thoughts on brain function and behavior. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Anita Sinha; children Vinita Watts M.D. (Greg) of Columbus, IN; Sujit Sinha (Susan) of South Barrington, IL; grandchildren, Shaleni Watts, Samit Sinha, and Suven Sinha. Hindu services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Hart's Mortuary and Crematorium, 765 Cherry Street in Macon, GA. A reception will follow the service at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210.
