Randolph “Ranny” Harris Moulton was born October 15, 1930, in Scottsville, Albemarle County, Virginia. He attended Scottsville High School and St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, Virginia. Ranny graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He held various engineering and management positions with Southern Railway Co. in Washington D.C, Knoxville, TN and Atlanta, GA, Vulcan Materials in Birmingham, AL and Steel Services Company in Macon, GA.
Ranny was a lifelong Episcopalian, and he served on vestries at three different churches in Georgia including St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He also served on the board of Episcopal Charities for the Atlanta Diocese, board of directors for Habitat for Humanity in Macon, The Friendship Force of Middle Georgia and Macon Council on World Affairs, Lion’s Club and Haitian Hope.
Hiking was one of Ranny’s favorite hobby’s and he hiked all 2,160 miles of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine under the trail name of “Gramps.” He loved golfing and was a member of Idle Hour Golf and CC. He was a lifelong learner in history, and he met regularly with the Civil War Round Table of Atlanta, Civil War Round Table of Charlottesville-Albemarle County and the Sons of the American Revolution.
Ranny was a beloved husband, and married the love of his life, Gail Kathryn Rogers on September 7, 1963. They had two children, Kathryn and John, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17th at 11AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The family will greet friends for a reception following the service in the Parish Hall.
