Ramarao Nagabhushana

Ramarao Nagabhushana (Bhushan to his friends) of Macon, Ga. passed away in his sleep on the morning of 24 July 2023. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Veena, and son, Anant and his family (Leighanne, Kavi, and Shanti).

He came to the USA in 1973 to pursue his degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Missouri - Rola. After university in 1975, he started working near the St. Louis area as a consultant. Saving money to bring his wife and son from India to be with him fulfilled his long-time dream. The family moved to Georgia in 1983, where he started working with the Macon Water Authority. He was proud of the work accomplished there during his tenure. He was there for the "Great Flood of '94," and construction of the new water treatment facility, and played a pivotal role in the construction of the water reservoir.

He retired from the Water Authority in 2002 to start his second career as a care provider for his grandson. After his retirement, Bhushan enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Kavi and Shanti, and pursued his passions for gardening and studying Hindu scriptures and philosophy. He was a devoted family man and doted on his grandchildren. He and his wife enjoyed traveling extensively all over the world, and he made memories and friends wherever he went.

Bhushan served as a spiritual guide, or Poojari, leading countless religious ceremonies in the community. He mentored adults and children alike and introduced and taught most of the younger generation the meaning of Hindu spirituality and culture. He encouraged with a kind hand, led by example, and touched everyone he met with his gentle spirit. He never met a stranger, and everyone who met him experienced his unconditional love and guidance.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the chapel of Hart’s Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, Macon, GA 31201.
