Ralph Astor Sewnath, Sr. passed away in Atlanta after a lengthy illness on Saturday, February 28, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the chapel of Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street. The Reverend Paul Creech will be officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation: Friday 6:00PM to 7:00PM at the funeral home. Mr. Sewnath was born in Trinidad, W.I. but moved to the United States almost 40 years ago. In Trinidad, he was a supervisor for Shell Oil Refinery and received numerous awards for his service there. After moving to Baltimore, MD Mr. Sewnath began working for the American Can Company. In 1980, he and his wife moved to Macon, GA and he began working for the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. Mr. Sewnath loved to travel, and visited many states along the East Coast as well as several European countries. Mr. Sewnath was extremely active and would always have an on-going project to fix, make, or improve upon. When he wasn't helping his family members in a myriad of ways, he focused on various charitable organizations. He had a beautiful singing voice and was once a member of his church choir. Mr. Sewnath believed in a solid work-ethic and lived his life by that belief. Later in his life, he found retirement too tiring so he discovered how to multi-task and tackled many things including learning a foreign language, learning to play the keyboard, tackling the computer, and reading about places he would have liked to travel. He was a loving husband, a father who expected the best of his children, and a doting grandfather. He will be missed. Mr. Sewnath is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marjorie Sewnath of Macon; children, Ralph Sewnath, Jr. of Atlanta, Sandra Meadows (Michael) of Warner Robins, and Lennox Adrian Sewnath of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Auburn Meadows of Warner Robins; 4 brothers, Henry Sewnath, Donald Australie, Franklin Australie, Keith Australie; and 6 sisters, Joan Edoo, Priscilla Roopnarine, Gladys Lodhar, Carole Mahabir, Vidia Karmatz, Sherill Kowal.
