Ralph Newton Cook, 71, died Friday, September 26, 2008.
Memorial services will be held at Wesleyan Drive Baptist Church Tuesday, September 30 at 2:30 pm, Reverend Norman Carter officiating. Immediately following the service, family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be private.
Mr. Cook was born in Lawrenceburg, TN and lived most of his life in Nashville, TN moving to Macon in 2006. He served in the US Air Force and was the former owner and CEO of Delta Imaging Company, with sales and service of medical x-ray equipment. Upon retirement in 1989, Mr. Cook devoted his time to volunteer work, helping to resettle political refugees to this country. He received much recognition for his commitment to this good work, including the Outstanding Achievement in Volunteering award from Nashville Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement (1993), the Mary Catherine Strobel Outstanding Volunteer Award (1999), and Volunteer of the Year award from TAACE (2003), a Tennessee Adult Education program, teaching and helping refugees learn English.
Mr. Cook was the son of the late Rufus Cecil and Mattie Blanche Finley Cook. He is survived by his wife, Martha Ellis Cook of Macon; sons, Fr. Philip C. Cook, OSA of Chicago, IL, and Peter C. Cook (Amanda) of Macon; grandchildren, India Grace and Samuel Joseph Cook; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Billy Prince of Hermitage, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
