R. Barry Bissonette

December 27, 1952 — September 14, 2013

The many who loved him and cherished his life regretfully announce that Barry Bissonette completed his life's journey at Pine Pointe Hospice on September 14, 2013 after courageously battling a long-term illness. Barry was born December 27, 1952 in Macon, Georgia and spent his life enjoying the many relationships he shared in his hometown. He was preceded in death by his father, George Bissonette. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol Childers Bissonette, his son, Brian Edward Bissonette, his mother, Betty Adair Bissonette, his brother, Ed Bissonette and wife Brenda, and numerous other loving family members. Barry was a 1971 graduate of Southwest High School and a 1980 graduate of Georgia College at Milledgeville. He spent his adult career serving the citizens of Middle Georgia through various positions at the Macon- Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission. Because of his illness, he sadly retired early leaving his position as Public Information Officer. Barry extended his service to Bibb County residents in numerous ways. When physically able, Barry spent his Wednesdays helping to provide free lunches at Macon Outreach's Downtown kitchen. Few tasks brought him more joy. He served on the Board of Directors of Crossroads Counseling Services and was a member of the Marketplace Men's Group. Barry was a faithful member of Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church and eagerly participated in many projects and committees. He joyously taught children's Sunday School for 10 years. He served as Chairman of Martha Bowman's Board of Trustees and with love and passion helped lead the church in the upgrade and renovation of the Christian Life Center. In all things, great and small, Barry strove for excellence, believing his legacy would be left, not in monuments or shrines, but in a job well done. A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at Martha Bowman United Methodist Church at 7:00PM on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Reverends Bob Moon, Tim Steffen and Gene Wilder will officiate. The family will receive friends at Martha Bowman Church Tuesday, September 17, 2013 from 5:30PM to 6:45PM. In lieu of flowers, Barry's family requests that donations be made to Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church, Macon Outreach or Pine Point Hospice. Register online at www.hartsmort.com. Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, has charge of arrangements.
