Phyllis Colwell Tanner, 73, of Lizella, Georgia, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 30, 2025, in the Chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola, with William Whiddon officiating.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, https://www.alz.org/

Phyllis was born on May 24, 1951, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late E. “Hank” Henry and Janice Eiding Colwell.  She was a 1969 graduate of Perry High School and a 2015 graduate of Mercer University, earning her bachelor's degree in Art. Phyllis, along with her husband, loved to ride horseback, read, dance, and travel, especially to Hawaii and Alaska. Phyllis was a peacemaker by nature. She never met a stranger because anyone she met became her friend.  She was very close to her family and had a unique, special bond with each family member.  She adored her parents and took special care of them.  Phyllis also loved spending time with her husband, even if it was a simple vacation or spending the evening at home sitting next to him on the sofa.  She was a fantastic mother to her children.  They loved and respected her dearly.

Phyllis loved art and she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter creating special pieces of art. This made Phyllis happy, and she treasured every minute.  She will be remembered for truly being the person who “stopped to smell the roses.”  She paid attention to every detail and soaked in every minute of her beautiful life.  She will be missed greatly and remembered forever.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Raymond J. Tanner; children, Karl Everidge, Jr., Jan Hosea (Lane), Raymond Joseph Tanner, Jr. (Kelli), and Melissa Ann Knighton (Jay); her grandchildren, Caleb Embry, Taylor Embry, Jaxson Tanner, Tyler Tanner, Dakota Tanner, Carissa Williams (Andrew), Clint Hosea, Camryn Hosea, and Seth Everidge; her great grandchildren, Jackson Williams and Everett Williams; her sisters, Sharyl Vest and Nanette Colwell; and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Brantley “Bo” Everidge, and her grand-daughter, Angel Tanner.
