Phydan Ramsey

Phydan Johnston Ramsey, 79, of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Hart’s at the Cupola, with Dr. Tim Bagwell officiating.  The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m. that day, prior to the service.

Phydan was born in Macon on June 2, 1945, to the late Julian Willis Johnston and Kathleen Avis Stevens Johnston.  She graduated from McEvoy High School and then went on to Georgia Southern University where she majored in Sociology. Phydan possessed a lifelong devotion to helping others, as exemplified by her career as a social worker with the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services. Everything she did was done with compassion and dedication.

Phydan loved cooking for her family, traveling, and spending time with her many friends. She was an active member of the Magnolia Garden Club and a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She previously served on the board at Stratford Academy, where both of her children attended school. But far beyond these activities, Phydan’s greatest joy came from being a mother to Katie and Bern and a grandmother to Callaway, Ramsey, Barnes, and Millie.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Bern Ramsey (Jessica) of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Katie Godfrey (Christopher) of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren: Barnes Ramsey, Millie Ramsey, Callaway Godfrey, and Ramsey Godfrey; sisters, Juleen Thomas (Paul) and Leisa Johnston, both of Macon; nieces and nephews, Kelly Malone (Stephen) of Atlanta, Georgia, Kate Thomas of Savannah, Georgia, Coby Jackson (Kim) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Allie Madonian (Calista) of Macon.
