Philip P. Stanford

Philip Preston Stanford went home to be with Jesus on August 10, 2016. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, August 12, 2016 at 11:00AM at First Baptist Church of Gray, 134 W. Clinton Street, Gray, GA 31032. The Reverend Randy Darnel and Brad Walker will be officiating with burial to follow at Cedar Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 6:00PM-8:00PM at Hart's Mortuary, Jones County Chapel, 307 Pecan Lane, Gray, GA 31032. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideon's International, 524 Poplar Street, Macon, GA 31201 and Little Book Ministry, Inc. P. O. Box 4022, Macon, GA 31208. Philip was predeceased by his parents Milton and Martha Pearl Stanford; son, Philip "Chipper" Stanford, Jr.; sister, Ianthy Ferguson; and brother, James Stanford. Philip is survived by Thelma Smith Stanford, his wife of 57 years; daughter, Michele Stanford (Chaffin); son, Bruce Stanford; grandchildren, Ross Chaffin (Jordan), Trevor Chaffin (Lindsay) and Lindsey Stanford Ray (Chris); and four great grandchildren. Philip retired from Bell South in 1997 with 42 ½ years of service. He served 40 years in the 202nd E. I. Squadron of the Georgia Air National Guard where he was honorably discharged as Master Sergeant. He was a charter member of the Jones County Fire Department serving 35 years as Captain with Station 5. He was a deacon and member of Arthur Jordan Sunday School Class with the First Baptist Church of Gray, GA, and a Gideon.
