Percy M. Newton

Rev. Percy M. Newton, Sr., Preacher Newton as he was fondly called, passed away on Friday January 6, 2010. Rev. Newton, was born in Dothan, Alabama on August 14, 1913 lived all but nine years of his life in Macon, Georgia. A Southern Baptist Minister for 51 years, he served numerous churches in the Middle Georgia area, including Glenwood Hills Baptist Church in Macon. He also retired from Joseph N. Neel Co. after 17 years. Rev. Newton was a member of and past president of the Exchange Club of Bibb County, Wolihin Lodge # 390, Knights Templar, Al Sihah Shrine Temple, and Vineville Baptist Church. Preceding him in death was his wife of 69 years, Helen Dorsey Newton, a brother, John Quinton Newton and a grandson, James E. Boyer, Jr. Left to treasurer his memory are his son, Percy M. Newton, Jr, (Eloise) of Cumming, Georgia, daughter, Helen Newton Boyer ( Jim) of Gray, Georgia, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Visitation will be held at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 from 2 - 3:00 pm. Private graveside services to be held at Riverside Cemetery with Dr. Tripp Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon, GA 31204. Register online at www.hartsmort.com. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
