Peggy Hays Simmons

April 9, 1937 — May 20, 2018

Peggy Hays Simmons, 81, died peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Riverside United Methodist Church. The Reverend Chip Strickland will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service in the church hall. Memorial donations may be made to Wesley Glenn, 4580 North Mumford Road, Macon, GA 31210;First Presbyterian Day School, 5671 Calvin Drive, Macon, GA 31210 or Prince Avenue Christian School, 2201 Ruth Jackson Road, Bogart, GA 30622.

Peggy graduated from Miller High School in 1956, and then attended Mercer University, where she was a member of Chi Omega. She married her late husband, Marcus V. Simmons, Jr. in 1957. After a short stint in Norfolk, Virginia and various places, Mark and Peggy moved back to Macon where they resided until their deaths. Peggy worked for C&S Bank and First Presbyterian Day School. Peggy was the happiest when she was with her beloved family at the beach or celebrating Christmas together. Her grandchildren were the absolute light of her life!

She was preceded in death by her husband, and her siblings, Betty Goodson and Guy M. Hays, Jr.

Mrs. Simmons is survived by her daughter, Dana Simmons Adams (Ross) of Forsyth; son, Marcus Simmons III (Carol) of Athens; grandchildren, John Ross Adams III and Lillian Ross Adams of Forsyth; Elizabeth Hays Simmons and Marcus V. “Mack” Simmons IV of Athens; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
