Peggy Mcdonald Matthews

Peggy McDonald Matthews, of Macon, Georgia, passed away March 7, 2023.  A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 am at Hart’s Chapel at the Cupola, with Dr Mark Hudgins officiating. The family will greet friends immediately after the service.

Peggy was born in Jackson County, Georgia to the late Redge McDonald and Jewell Slayton McDonald on July 19, 1933. She lived in Jefferson, Georgia as a young child and moved to Macon at age 10 when her parents moved to work at Payne Cotton Mill.  During high school, she also worked at Payne Cotton Mill. After graduating from Thomaston Tech, Peggy began working at Blue Bird Body company as a parts supply clerk where she retired with 28 years of service.

Peggy was known for her fierce dedication to her family and friends, her spunky wit, her fabulous southern cooking, and her keen sense of humor.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her five brothers, Larry, Dennis, Jack, Jerry, and Bobby McDonald; son, Jimmy Huntsinger, daughter, Candy Freeman Peterson; and granddaughter, Amelia “Mimi” Huntsinger.

Peggy, affectionally known by many as “Nanny”,  will be lovingly remembered by her granddaughters, Autumn Harvell (Charles), and Lacey Bell; great grandsons, CJ Harvell and Lennon Dobson; sister in law, Scarlett McDonald; daughter in law, September Carter (Sherwood); and many nieces and nephews; friends who were like family, Patricia Alrid, Louise Hogan, and Melissa and Chuck Harvell, as well many other dear friends.

Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to Theatre Macon or All About Animals in Macon, Georgia.
