Paula Motes

Macon- Paula Motes died Thursday, January 22, 2009. Services will be held Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 2:00PM at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be private. The family will greet friends at the church on Sunday from 1:00PM until 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to Macon Outreach, Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, 719 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201. Born in Macon, Georgia on October 23, 1928, Mrs. Motes was the daughter of the late Mary Delk Howard and Sidney Paul Howard and the wife of the late Arthur Glenn Motes, Jr. She was predeceased by her daughter, Molly Motes Gifford. Mrs. Motes graduated from Miller High School and attended Mercer University where she was a member of ADTT Sorority. For more than sixty years, she was a very active member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Joy Class, serving as leader and office holder, and a member of the "Paula Motes Circle" for which she was leader and namesake. She was a founding member of Macon Outreach, serving for many years on the board and as chairman. She was a recipient of WMAZ Volunteer of the Year, a member in the National Register of Who's Who in Executives and Professionals 2004 and was 2005 Business Woman of the Year, sponsored by the National Republican Congressional Committee. She was a bookkeeper and partner in the family music business, Bibb Music Center. Mrs. Motes was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Nolie Motes, and daughters, Jessie Motes and Talley Motes, all of Dahlonega, GA; son-in-law, Bill Gifford and sons, Chris Gifford, John David Gifford and Joe Gifford, all of Macon, GA; sister, Mitzi Howard Wagner and her family; and the family of her deceased brother, John Howard.
