Paula Hinson Gerhardt

Paula Hinson Gerhardt passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, the evening of Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the age of 73. She was the daughter of the late Retha and Paul Hinson. She was a Special Education teacher and counselor in the Bibb County educational system for over thirty years. Paula graduated from A. L. Miller High School in 1968. She subsequently graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, from Georgia College and State University with a Master of Science in Education degree and from the University of Georgia again with a six-year Education Specialist degree. Paula was appointed by Governor Roy Barnes to the Teachers Retirement System of Georgia. As one of several board members, she oversaw the fiscal management of its pension fund for several years.

Paula is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert Hillman Gerhardt; daughter, Kaci Hinson Gerhardt; son Kaiser Hillman Gerhardt (Molly); granddaughter, Evie Gerhardt; brother, Paul Madison Hinson Jr. Additional family members include her niece, Madison Hinson Argo (Will); and their children, Hinson Argo, Harrison Argo, and Miller Argo; her niece, Macie Hinson McJenkin (Kris); and their children, Lennon McJenkin and Parks McJenkin.

Paula was a five-time cancer survivor over a twenty year period, having beaten breast cancer twice and ovarian cancer three times. Although she loved flowers, particularly those in her home gardens, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org); or to a charity, school, or church of their choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00AM, February 14, 2023, at Hart’s at the Cupola with the Reverend Jimmy Corbitt officiating. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Private interment services will immediately follow the service at Macon Memorial Park.
