Paul Thomas Scarbary, Sr., 89, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026. A visitation will be held at Sardis-Heard Funeral Home on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Mr. Scarbary was born in Macon, Georgia on March 18, 1936, to the late Otis Thomas Scarbary and Nora Parker Scarbary. After high school, he began working as a pipe fitter and continued in that career by starting his own mechanical business and later starting his own general contracting company. He enjoyed working with and alongside his employees until retiring in 2011. During his retirement, he took pleasure in spending time with friends and family, good food, doing small jobs for those who needed his help and getting a well-deserved nap. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and for living a quiet and simple life.
Mr. Scarbary is survived by his children: Kathy Phillips (Joey) of McIntyre, Georgia, Paula Sowell of Gray, Georgia, Vicki Renfroe (Mark) of Lizella, Georgia, Paul Scarbary, Jr. (Jan) of Evans, Georgia, and Dean Scarbary (Terri) of Gray, Georgia; grandchildren: Mandy Summerlin (Chad) of Wilmington, North Carolina, Zach Phillips of McIntyre, Georgia, Jessica Sowell of Macon, Georgia, Clarke Sowell (Kara) of Macon, Georgia, Eric Renfroe (Nikki) of Forsyth, Georgia, Daniel Renfroe (Jenna) of Gray, Georgia, Tyler Scarbary of Evans, Georgia, Angelynn Munson (Chris) of Lexington, South Carolina, Josh Scarbary (Katie) of Walnut, Mississippi, Anna Scarbary of Gray, Georgia, Steven Scarbary of Gray, Georgia, and Kaleb Scarbary of Macon, Georgia; and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Scarbary was preceded in death by his wife, Connie McPherson Scarbary; son, Joel Steven Scarbary; granddaughter, Alyssa Scarbary; and great granddaughter, Olivia Renfroe.
