Macon-Orbin D. Howell, Jr., died Tuesday, October 19, 2010, ten days short of his 90th birthday. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at 11:00AM at First Presbyterian Church in Macon with the Reverend Chip Miller and the Reverend John Kinser officiating. Burial will follow at Macon Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 5:00-7:00PM at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola.
Mr. Howell was born in Macon, GA to the late Orbin D. and Annie Dean Howell. He was also predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Virginia G. Howell.
Mr. Howell graduated from Lanier High School and Mercer University, cherished his experiences at both institutions, and was a leader in many organizations throughout his college years including being the President of the Student Body. In addition, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during World War II.
Loyalty and service also characterized Mr. Howell's 51 year tenure with Equitable Life Insurance Company - 19 of these years spent as District Manager. He won numerous awards and was a member of the Equitable Hall of Fame.
Finally, Mr. Howell's heart for service extended to various parts of the Christian community. He was active in the Gideons International and in Macon's First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, led the shepherding committee, and the Senior VIP group. Truly, Mr. Orbin Howell's life was most blessed - resting on his faith in Jesus, serving others, working diligently, and delighting in the joys of precious times with his beloved family.
Mr. Howell was a caring father of his children, Judy H. King (Ron) of Columbus, GA, D. Stanley Howell (Vicki) of Macon, Susan H. Burch (Sam) of Fayetteville, GA, and Glenn D. Howell (Kay) of Byron; and a proud grandfather of Anna K. Flournoy (Jake) of Columbus, and David King (Jennifer) of Decatur, GA, Clay Howell (Angie) of Atlanta, Russ Howell of Macon, Robert Burch (Carly) and Courtney Burch of Fayetteville, GA, Emily Howell of Byron, Scott McDaniel (Christy) and Melissa McDaniel of Warner Robins, and Shaun McDaniel of Macon; and his seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Annie Marie Lanyon of Ft. Valley; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
