Norma (Kay) Katherine (Wood) Hunnicutt

Norma Katherine (Kay) Wood Hunnicutt, 70, passed away July 25, 2020 after a lengthy illness. She was born June 15, 1950 in Macon, GA. Kay graduated from A.L. Miller High School in 1968. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church where she was active in the UMYF and the Adult Choir during high school. After high school, she worked at Southern Bell, as a night manager at several local motels, and finally at Norfolk-Southern Railway, where she met her future husband of 39 years, William Eugene (Bill) Hunnicutt. Kay and Bill enjoyed their trips to various estate sales, and they operated a booth at an antique mall in Perry for several years.

Kay was a lifelong lover of all animals, raising quarter horses beginning in her senior year of high school when she was also competing in multiple horse shows in the southeast and winning quite a few awards. Her mother made all of her show costumes. Later in life, she began a business breeding small dogs at different times. Over the years, many little dogs became her family, and she could tell you every one’s name and she recognized each one’s voice. She also loved the outdoors, enjoyed growing flowers, and feeding and watching the wild birds in her yard brought her great joy. She enjoyed the time that she could spend with her family and her friends.

Kay is pre-deceased by her mother, Katherine Elizabeth Butler Wood and her husband, Bill Hunnicutt. Her father Robert E. Wood passed away September 29, 2020. She is survived by her brother, Robert E. (Bobby) Wood, Jr. (Frances), step-daughter Susan Hunnicutt of Homerville, GA, step-sons Keith and Danny (Debbie) Hunnicutt of Madison, Florida and Valdosta, respectively, grandson Jeffery, and a large number of cousins throughout the United States.

A memorial graveside service will be held Friday October 9, 2020 at 1:00pm at Macon Memorial Park, 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204.
