Nora Coolik Koplin, 88, died Thursday, July 16, 2009. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 3:00PM at Temple Beth Israel. Rabbi Laurence Schlesinger of Temple Beth Israel will officiate. Burial will be in William Wolff Cemetery at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend a reception in the Grand Ballroom at Carlyle Place, 5300 Zebulon Road, following the burial until 6:30PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth Israel, 892 Cherry Street, Macon, GA 31201 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mrs. Koplin was born in Reynolds, GA, the daughter of the late Sophie and David Coolik. Educated in Reynolds, she graduated from the University of Georgia in 1941.
Mrs. Koplin was a charter member of the Jackson Springs Garden Club and president of Macon B'nai B'rth Women. She has served as treasurer of the Macon and Middle Georgia Federation of Jewish Charities and was a member of Temple Beth Israel, Congregation Sha'Arey Israel and Temple Beth Israel Sisterhood. Last year, Mr. and Mrs. Koplin were presented with the Keter Shem Tov Award, the crown of a good name, for lifetime exemplary service to Temple Beth Israel.
Mr. and Mrs. Koplin were awarded the "Book of Golden Deeds" by the Macon Exchange Club in April 2000. Having an interest in public education, the Koplins furnished funds to the Board of Education to develop a home technology fund where students were loaned Sony Play Stations and Compact discs for the third grade level in Winship School. This program was expanded to fourth and fifth grades, and eventually, reached ten schools. In 1997 funds were provided to the Bibb County Recreation Department to install playground equipment for handicapped children in three playgrounds and TOT seats to all playgrounds.
Mrs. Koplin was predeceased by her son, Dana Koplin, and her son-in-law, Al Cohn.
Mrs. Koplin is survived by her husband of 67 years, Alvin M. Koplin of Macon; son, Cary A. Koplin and his wife Sherry of New York City; daughter, Carla Koplin Cohn of Westport, CT; three grandchildren, Justin Koplin and his wife Allyson, Bryan Koplin, and Jennifer Cohn Falik and her husband Brian, all of New York City; two great grandchildren, Daniella and Emily Koplin, both of New York City.
