Macon

Nell Grinstead Wiggins, 84, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on May 11, 2025. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Hart’s at the Cupola. Funeral services will follow at Hart’s on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverends Eddie Coatney and Terry Hedden officiating. Burial will take place at Orange Hill Cemetery in Hawkinsville, Georgia.

Daughter of the late George Monroe Grinstead and Nettie Louise Richardson Grinstead, Nell was born in Hawkinsville, Georgia, on April 14, 1941. A graduate of Hawkinsville High School, she later attended Middle Georgia College before moving to Macon in 1961.

Nell retired from Alfa Insurance as a District Supervisor after 25 years. She also dedicated her weekends to working part-time at Olympia Skate Center for 32 years, where her joyful, fun-loving, and enthusiastic personality brightened many lives. Those who visited the skating rink affectionately called her “Mama Nell.” After 1986, she would later become known as “Nanell,” a name given by her oldest grandchild, Elizabeth. She became a mother and grandmother to most who visited during those 32 years. Outside of her professional career, Nell enjoyed watching and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering for the Atlanta Braves, spending time shopping, having dinner with friends and family at The Players Club, working in her yard and tending to her beautiful flowers.

Nell will be remembered by her son, David Wiggins (Kim) of Hawkinsville; her daughter, Susan Lovell of Macon; three grandchildren: Elizabeth Carden (John) of Macon, Devin Wiggins (Kristin) of Hawkinsville, and Chandler Wiggins of Hawkinsville; and five great-grandchildren: Abigayle Baugh, Madelyn Carden, Jack Carden, Hudson Wiggins, and Emelia Wiggins.

In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Lovell; and siblings: George E. Grinstead, Mary Wyl Kinard, Thomas R. Grinstead, Benjamin W. Grinstead, Ramsey T. Grinstead, Louise Maine, Walter Davis Grinstead, and Kenneth Grinstead.
