Mrs. Nancy Jane (Edwards) Miles, 65, of Jones County, passed away Thursday, May 9th, 2024 at home.
Fourth of five surviving children of Frank Dewey and Virginia Ann (Robinson) Edwards, Nancy was born October 20, 1958. Raised in Reading, Ohio, she became a flautist in high school band, a passion she carried for as long she could play – serving in community bands and church choirs. She attended college at Centre College in Kentucky before transferring to University of Cincinnati where she met her husband, Bradley James Miles, of what would have been 40 years of marriage on August 4th, 2024.
She and her husband moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, for his career and she later began working in education after years of supporting youth and children’s ministry at Soddy-Daisy First Presbyterian Church. In Chattanooga, Nancy and Brad had their two girls, Anna Miles (Trieu) and Rosie Miles seven years apart and after years of infertility and losses.
Later the family moved to Valdosta, Georgia, to follow Brad’s athletic training career to Valdosta High School. At first, Nancy taught as a paraprofessional and later she got a position teaching 9th grade English for four years.
In 2014, Nancy suffered her first heart attack as the family was moving to Jones County, Georgia, where Brad was athletic trainer for 13 years. That move was indicative of the support and friendship Nancy found with so many in Jones County up until her passing. People who had never met the family rallied together to help move them for the price of pizza. She was a substitute teacher in Jones County Schools for nine years and always kept her home open to her daughters’ friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her eldest brother John, who died in infancy; and eldest sister, Christie Myers. Nancy is survived by her husband, Bradley Miles; children, Anna Miles (Khoi) Trieu and Rosie Miles; grandson, Wren Trieu; siblings, Jeffrey (Sue) Edwards, Gary (Sue) Edwards, and Emily Ball; and over a dozen nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
