Nancy Haviland Adams Dahill Kovacs, 85, of Macon died on Thursday, February 23, 2012. Born September 15, 1926, in Charlottesville, Virginia, she was the daughter of Ordway Samuel Adams and Ruth Eliza Bedell Adams. Nancy attended Roanoke College and married Carroll Paul Dahill in 1948, with whom she raised five children. She and her family eventually settled in Winter Haven, Florida, where Carroll died in 1973. Nancy married Joseph Kovacs in 1976, and together they lived in both upstate New York and New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where Joe died in 1997. Nancy was a graduate of the University of South Florida and worked for many years as a medical technologist at Amsterdam (NY) Memorial Hospital. A resident of Macon for the past six years, Nancy was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she attended daily Mass and volunteered with Family Advancement Ministries until illness limited her involvement. Before moving to Macon, Nancy was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea (New Smyrna Beach), where she served as a Eucharistic minister and president of the Council of Catholic Women. Nancy enjoyed playing bridge, reading, listening to classical music, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren, with whom she lived in close proximity. She was an accomplished rug hooker who had a particular fondness for geometrics and primitives. Nancy was president of her local chapter of the Pearl K. McGowan Guild and created numerous beautiful rugs during her twenty years of rug hooking, including many that were created to commemorate family weddings and births. She is survived by her son William (Red) Dahill and his wife, Debbie (of Viriginia); daughter Mary and her husband, Doug Pearson (of Macon); and daughter Cathie and her husband, Bob Zanella (of Florida); six grandchildren, Kim (and Calvin) Bragg, Chris Dahill, Nathan Dahill, Caroline Pearson, Elizabeth Pearson, and Garrett Pearson; five great-grandsons; her husband Joe's daughter Judy Connors (and her three children and their families) and son Joseph Kovacs (and his three sons and their families); and many devoted nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Carroll and Joe, daughter Diane Sutton, son Philip Dahill, and sisters Judy Foley and Sally Cooke. Funeral services will be held later this week at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winter Haven, Florida, with burial to follow at Lakeside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Heartland Hospice (200 Northside Crossing, Macon, 31210) or the donor's favorite charity.
