Nan Payne Cleveland

Ms. Nan Payne Cleveland, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born in Hall County, Georgia, on September 2, 1940, to the late John Alphus "Al" Payne and Rubye Elizabeth Titshaw Payne.

A longtime resident of Macon, Nan became the first female deputy sheriff for Bibb County Georgia, in 1979. She remained with the sheriff's office until her retirement in 2006.

She is survived by her sons, Richard "Rick" Edford Cleveland Jr. (Adele Chalabala) and Stephen Carey Cleveland Sr. (Cherrie Prather Cleveland). Also, grandchildren: Christina Cleveland Morgan, Richard Cleveland III, Dawn Cleveland Budinger, Stephen Cleveland Jr., Tyler Cleveland, and Olivia Cleveland, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
