Myrtle Griffin Rooks

Macon- Myrtle Griffin Rooks, 83, of 1653 Winston Drive, died following a brief illness on Monday, October 25, 2010. Services will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 3:00PM in the Chapel of Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, with Dr. David Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park. The family may be contacted at 623 Friar Tuck Lane and will greet friends for one hour before the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 6611 Zebulon Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.

Mrs. Rooks was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class and taught children's Sunday School for many years. She was a former employee of S & H Stamp Company, Moffett's, Woolworth's and Gayle Ray. Mrs. Rooks was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She was a member of WMU and the Early Risers Breakfast Prayer Group. Mrs. Rooks was predeceased by her parents, Edith Burgamy Griffin and Binion Griffin, and by five brothers and sisters, Ben Griffin, James Griffin, Lucille McGregor, Mattie Johnson Lyles and Doris Griffin.

Mrs. Rooks is survived by her husband, Gene Rooks; daughter, Janice Rooks Farmer (Gary) of Macon; grandchildren, Kelli Farmer Bowden (Ray) of Smarr and Brad Farmer of Tallahassee, Florida; great-grandchildren, Stephen Bowden and Amy Bowden, both of Smarr; brothers and sisters, Richard and Virginia Griffin of Gray, John Ed and Barbara Griffin of Sparta, Jesse and Gloria Griffin of Milledgeville, Harold and Brenda Griffin of Byron, Edith and Clifford Tuttle of Macon and Joyce Hendley of Macon; many nieces and nephews.
