Miller Gordon Edwards III, 76, of 103 Monticlair Court, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:00AM at Vineville United Methodist Church with Dr. Jimmy Asbell and Rev. Grace Guyton officiating, followed by graveside service at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Harts at the Cupola on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 5:00-7:00PM. The family may be contacted at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Methodist Children's Home or Pine Pointe Hospice. Miller was born in Macon on August 19, 1939 to the late Miller Gordon Edwards, Jr. (originally of Perry) and Margaret Mitchell Edwards Morgan (originally of Griffin). Miller was a life-long resident of Macon, and a 1957 graduate from Lanier High School. Miller was an Eagle Scout and member of Boy Scout Troop 5. He went on to attend Emory University and Mercer University and was a brother in Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Additionally, he served in the United States Air Force Reserves. Miller enjoyed a career in the insurance industry followed by a longer career in the real estate industry where he was sales manager for Murphey, Taylor & Ellis and later for Coldwell Banker SSK Realtors. Miller was a life-long member of Vineville United Methodist Church where he formerly served on various committees of service to the church. He was a member of the Macon Civic Club. He was honored to have served as the President of the Macon Board of Realtors, the President of the Macon Multiple Listing Service (MLS), and the President of the Macon Association of Independent Insurance Agents. Miller was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and motor-boating, and he especially enjoyed such activities with his family. Miller is survived by: his wife of 53 years, Joann Edwards; his sons, Miller Edwards IV and Chris Edwards (Holli); his brothers, Dick Edwards (Judy) and John Edwards (Peggy); his grandchildren, Emily Edwards, Miller Edwards V, Carson Edwards and Shepard Edwards; his nephews Slade Edwards and Rob Haver (Laura, Ashton and Ella Grace); his niece Marjorie Carter (John and John Thomas), all of Macon; and his niece Kathy Manzell (of Gainesville). He is further survived by: his mother-in-law Doris Shepard; sisters-in-law and brother in-law Bonnie Collins (Howard), Sharon Funderburk (Frank), Beth Shepard, and Robert Shepard (Kathy) and their families residing in various places throughout the country.
