Mildred Dickson Newell

Mildred Dickson Newell passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2014 after a long and happy life. Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Hart's Mortuary on Cherry Street. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior. Interment will be immediately following at Riverside Cemetery. The Reverend Diane Sweckard will officiate. Mildred was born June 25 1918, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Curtis and Mae Dickson. Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Buford M. Newell. Her memory will forever be cherished by her loving Sister Marcella (Edward) Whitten of Macon, Nephew Wayne (Marcia) Whitten of Michigan, and a great nephew Jason (Heidi) Whitten of Ohio. Mrs. Newell retired from Macys after forty years, having served as executive personnel manager. She was an avid golfer who loved to travel. She was a member of The Riverside Ladies Golf Association, Bowden Ladies Golf Association, Riverview Community Club, and The Macon Exchange Club. Mildred and her husband were also charter members of the former Riverside Golf and Country Club. She currently attended Forest Hill United Methodist Church and was a member of the Faithful Friends Sunday School Class. Mildred was also a former member of Cherokee Heights United Methodist Church. She will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent, in her name, to the Methodist Children’s Home, 304 Pierce Ave, Macon, GA 31204, or the donor’s favorite charity.
