Mildred Kerr Kunz passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at her residence. She was 94 years of age. Mildred was born January 10, 1916 to Myrtle Gilson Kerr and Clyde T. Kerr in Rome Township, Crawford County, Centerville, PA. She is survived by her husband, Clarence E. Kunz, whom she married on February 13, 1948. Mildred graduated with honors from Colestock High School, Titusville, PA., in 1934. After graduating from high school, Mildred enrolled at Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA., where she majored in mathematics and graduated in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She was a member of Delta Nabla - a mathematics honor society. As in high school, Mildred was very active in athletics while in college - starring in basketball, soccer, and field hockey. She was a member of the Westminster Athletic Club and Y.W.C.A. During her graduating year she was voted the most outstanding woman athlete of her class. After graduating from college, Mildred served as a Teaching Methodist Missionary in British Malaya (now Malaysia) from 1940 to 1942, when she was forced to evacuate because of the Japanese invasion. Upon returning to the United States, she taught mathematics in Brocton Central High School, Brocton, NY from 1942 until her marriage in 1948. Immediately after marriage, she and her husband took up residence in Geneva, NY where they resided for 31 years and where their two sons were born and raised. While in Geneva, Mildred was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Youth Counselor, Financial Secretary, President of the Women's Society of Christian Service, and Trustee. For several years, she served as a substitute teacher in the Geneva Public High School and was later hired as a mathematics teacher at DeSales, a Catholic High School in Geneva, NY. After retirement, the Kunz's lived in Lake Placid, FL for 18 years and Ogden, UT for almost 10 years before moving to Macon, GA to be near family. While in Lake Placid, Mildred was a member of the ARP Presbyterian Church and while in Ogden, she belonged to the First Presbyterian Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church, Macon, GA. In addition to her husband, Mildred is survived by two sons, Donald L. (Christine) of Dayton, OH and Richard K (Stephanie) of Macon, GA; three grandchildren, Benjamin (Sarah) of Salt Lake City, UT, Caroline Ivanov (Phil) of Jackson, MS, and Hawley Kunz of Macon, GA; one step granddaughter, Shannon Lasowitz (Scott) of Midlothian, VA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Everett and Harry Kerr; and three sisters, Luella Kerr, Olevia Kerr and Leola (Kerr) Hummer, all of Titusville, PA. Cremation will be under the direction of Hart's Mortuary and Crematory at the Cupola, Macon, GA with burial of the remains at the Union Cemetery, Titusville, PA at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church, (her home church) 15028 State Highway 89, Titusville, PA 16354.
