Michael Moore "Mickey" Rivers, 84, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Monday, August 3, 2026, in the Chapel of Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola, with Reverend Cynthia Knapp officiating. The family will greet friends for a time of visitation following the service. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Christ Episcopal Church for the benefit of the weekend lunch program, 582 Walnut Street, Macon, Georgia 31201, or by visiting www.christchurchmacon.com.
Mickey was born on April 2, 1942, in Charlotte, North Carolina. His family moved to Jones County shortly after he was born. Then they moved to Macon, Georgia, when he was in the fourth grade where he attended Alexander IV. Mickey graduated from Lanier High School and was known for his athletic skills which included baseball, football, and golf. He was a referee and an umpire for GISA sports and other recreational sports.
Mickey was inducted into the Georgia Slow-Pitch Hall of Fame, where he served as an umpire for several decades. Later in life, he enjoyed playing pickleball.
Mickey also worked at Burgess Flooring as a production manager for many years. He loved his family and was well known for his love of sports. He made many friends through the years, and he will be greatly missed in this community.
Mickey is survived by his wife, Marilee Kinard Rivers; his children, Dana Rivers, Michael M. Rivers Jr. (Jamey), Jay Willingham, Lee Willingham (Daniel), and Laura Willingham Merrill (Jon); his grandchildren, Mason Rivers, Sutton Rivers, Tristan Benns, and Elijah Merrill; his sister, Marian Rivers White of Albany, Georgia; his brother, Billy Rivers (Kathi) of Salem, South Carolina; and his nieces and nephews, Claire Carson (Chris), Greg Johnson, Betsy Fountain (Moyer), and Brandon Cabaniss (Chad). He is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace M. Rivers and Jane Rivers; his maternal grandparents, Durward E. and Mattie Virginia Moore; and his maternal uncle, Durward E. Moore, Jr.
