Michael T. Hopkins, Sr.

Michael T. Hopkins, Sr. passed away peacefully, Sunday evening, March 4, 2018, in his home, surrounded by his loved ones. Mike was born in Bedford, Virginia. He met his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Martha Foster Hopkins, in nearby Lynchburg. Mike was a doting husband and father who loved his family above all else. He was the kind of man that listened more than he spoke, was respected by all who knew him, and was a man of his word. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, working in his garden, and spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren. He bravely and nobly served his country in Germany with the United States Army as a member of the 101st Airborne until he was Honorably Discharged. Following his military career, he was a trooper with the Virginia State Police. Mike enjoyed his career working as the Resident Agent in Charge for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives where he was selected as Special Agent of the Year in 1974. After retiring for only a year, Mike worked for the District Attorney's Office for 10 years, retiring in 1998. Mike is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Michael (Lindsay) Hopkins and Michele Hopkins Hodge of Macon, Georgia; four grandchildren, Alexis Reed Hopkins, Michael T. Hopkins III, Jensen Anne Hodge, and Addison Klein Hopkins; two sisters, Barbara Kennamer, and Patricia (Paul) Saitz; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends at Hart's Mortuary from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon Georgia. Services will be private.
