Michael Paul Crump

October 25, 1948 — November 9, 2023

Macon

Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Athlete, Coach, Teen Pastor, Worship Leader, Teacher, and Businessman, Michael Crump, age 75, of Macon, Georgia, left to be with his Lord and Savior on November 9, 2023. A celebration of his life will be at Christ Chapel Macon, Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 11:30am, with Pastor John Wood officiating.  The family will greet friends after the service.

Mike was born in St Louis, Missouri to Paul and Ruth Mentze Crump. He lived in Saint Louis until he became a resident of Marietta, Georgia in 1976, then finally settling in Macon in 1997.

Mike loved sports and was born a natural athlete. Mike led his football team as middle linebacker to a state championship in his final season and was recruited as a top baseball prospect by the Pittsburg Pirates as a senior in high school. Mike went on to use his athletic ability and skills to coach both baseball and football. His love for serving the youth coupled with his love for Jesus led him to become Teen Pastor at his church in Marietta. Here he also was a Worship Leader for all ages. At Christ Chapel in Macon, he served his Lord as a teacher, Meal Train provider, caterer for the Ladies Tea, helped to start a men’s Bible Study and served on the Church Greeting and Safety Team. Mike was also an excellent businessman leading to much success in sales and sales management.

Mike had a passion for hunting and fishing and loved to cook. His favorites were chili and unique bundt cakes. His five Granddaughters brought him so much joy. He was an avid fan of Mary Catherine, Laura, and Elizabeth’s softball teams. Morgan’s theatrical performances were something he never missed, and he was Caitlyn’s biggest fan on the Lacrosse field. No matter the circumstance, Mike’s keen sense of humor enabled him to bring fun and laughter for everyone. One of Mike’s favorite pastimes was watching and cheering on the UGA football team. Every game you could find him loudly cheering on his beloved Bulldogs which brought him so much joy.

He fought a long battle with heart failure for 15 years which finally took him to be with his Lord. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Schaper Crump, daughter Kimberly Johnson, son Eric Crump and his wife Megan, sister Paula Moser, granddaughters Mary Catherine Johnson, Laura Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Morgan Crump and Caitlyn Crump.
