Melvin H. Haskins, 68, died Friday, February 25, 2011. Graveside services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Sha'Arey Israel Cemetery in Rose Hill Cemetery. Rabbi Rachel Bat-Or will be officiating. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Sha'Arey Israel, 611 First Street, Macon, GA 31201; Hospice of Central Georgia, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210; or The American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 4406, Macon, GA 31208. Mr. Haskins was born and raised in Macon. He was a 1960 graduate of Lanier High School where he was active in the ROTC. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in business. Mr. Haskins was a member of Congregation Sha'Arey Israel and the Macon Lion's Club. Mr. Haskins is survived by his wife, Linda H. Haskins of Macon; daughter, Terri Haskins Cohen and her husband David of Marietta; son, Richard Haskins and his wife Amy of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Austin Cohen, Taylor Cohen and Peyton Cohen, all of Marietta, Mackenzie Haskins and Danielle Haskins, both of Atlanta; two step grandchildren, Zachary Sabatini and Zoe Sabatini, both of Atlanta; brother, Burt Haskins and his wife Dorothy of Tampa, Florida; father-in-law, Morris Young of Jacksonville, Florida; sister-in-law, Toby Chod and her husband Dr. Steven Chod of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Dr. Larry Young and his wife Barbi of Jacksonville, Florida, and Alan Young and his wife Beth of Mobile, Alabama; uncle, Abe Stein of Birmingham, Alabama; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
