Mavis Ophelia Crumley Odom

Mavis Ophelia Crumley Odom, 90, of Macon, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022.  A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park with The Reverends Joe McDaniel and Lee Sheppard officiating.  The family will greet friends Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hart’s at the Cupola.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church, 1415 Bass Rd., Macon, GA 31210 or American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Ste A, Macon, GA 31201.

Mavis was born in Dodge County, Georgia to the late Oder D. Crumley and Pearl Lee Crumley.  She was a 1948 graduate of A.L. Miller High School.  She was retired from Allstate Insurance Company. Mavis and Harold traveled to the 48 contiguous states, in addition to visiting Hawaii, taking a cruise to Alaska and touring Europe.  Every spring, they would go to Florida for Spring Training to watch the Atlanta Braves, where they were known by most of the players.

Mavis was a member of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church where she served on the finance committee, personnel committee, long-range planning committee, the Believers, Sunday School class and the Mary Waldon WMU Circle.  She was also active in the senior adult choir, and Golden Agers, and Women on Missions.  Mavis was also active in the Senior Friends of the Coliseum Hospital.

In addition to her parents, Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Odom; son, Michael E. Odom; and sisters, Zelda Stapleton, Reba Howard, and Dot Cumbess.

Mavis is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jan K. Odom; grandchildren, Brian Odom of Abingdon, Virginia and Russell (Chrisy) Odom of Circleville, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Odom of Abingdon, Katie Mullens of Louisiana, Gabriella Odom of Abingdon, and Tyler, Amann, Mackenzie and Braden Doddroe of Circleville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the sitters that cared for Mavis, including Vanessa Adams, Vivian McClinton, Ellen Martin, Shonda Scarborough, Jakayla “Butter” Scarborough, and Katherine Hill.
