Matteo Tritto

May 1, 1946 — May 6, 2025

Gray

After a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Matteo Tritto is now rejoicing in the presence of Almighty God. He died on May 6, 2025, at the age of 79.

Born on May 1, 1946, in Mola Di Bari, Italy, to his father Amedeo Tritto, and his mother, Filomena Stasi, he was one of eight children. His mother was a homemaker, while his father was an olive contractor. As a young man, he took an interest in working with his hands and soon began to learn the trade of masonry. Whether it was working with stucco, laying tile, or working with wood, he soon realized the importance of working hard and being fully committed to finishing the job with perfection.

In 1968, he arrived in Toronto to be with his brothers, for some of them took up his same trade as laborers. He arrived in New York in 1971 and was soon reunited with the love of his life, Carmela. They were married in 1972.

In 1977, he began working for Merrill Lynch as part of their maintenance team. He continued working there and in 1985, began working for Goldman Sachs. He was soon appointed head of the maintenance department. He continued working there until his retirement in 2008.

In 2007, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. He and his wife moved down to Georgia, so they could be closer to their triplet grandchildren, Sophia, Samuel, and William. He began receiving care at the Movement Disorders Clinic at Emory.

Matteo lived for his family. His two children, Amedeo and Phyllis, learned the importance of hard work ethic and commitment. His wife Carmela and he were a strong team. They always relied on each other. They had a marriage that was built on trust and love. Matteo was the greatest provider anyone could have imagined. The dream of working hard and buying his first home for his family soon became a reality. From a young working immigrant to the day of achieving United States citizenship, he mastered the American dream.

The many Sunday dinners and holidays spent with family around the table are memories that will forever be engrained in the minds of his family. Family was everything to Matteo. He considered himself to be rich, not by materials, but by his many blessings.

His family wishes to thank all those from Lynn Haven Health and Rehabilitation for the many years of love and care they provided, as well as Affinis Hospice of Gray, for the care they provided as well.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his loving memory, to The Michael J. Fox Foundation at michaeljfox.org

A funeral mass and burial will be held in Staten Island, New York.
