Mary Jackson Wheeler

August 5, 1930 — December 17, 2015

Mary Jackson Wheeler of Macon, Georgia died Thursday, December 17, 2015. She was born August 5, 1930 in Matthews, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Cortez A. Jackson and the late Edith Jones Jackson. She graduated from Glascock County High School and received her B.S. degree in Home Economics from Berry College. While teaching at Jones County High School, she met and married her husband Carl L. Wheeler, Sr. She became a partner and employee of Wheeler's Nursery until her retirement. She was an active member of historical Clinton United Methodist Church of Gray, Georgia for over fifty years. Mary was a woman of grace and dignity. She had overwhelming love for her family and friends and always put others before herself. She was kind, honest, giving, caring, and a blessing to all who knew her. Mary will be deeply missed. Services will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 2:00PM at Harts Mortuary, Jones County Chapel, 307 Pecan Lane, Gray, GA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Wheeler family cemetery in Bradley, GA. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years of marriage, Carl L. Wheeler, Sr., a son, Carl "Len" Wheeler, Jr.(Melanie), a daughter Jill Wheeler Thompson (Chuck), six grandchildren, Carrie Wheeler Thacker (Brandon), Carl L. Wheeler, III (Danielle), Katie Thompson Kern (Robby), Kevin Thompson, Bruce Carroll all of Jones County, GA and Chris Carroll (Chelsea), Jacksonville Beach, FL.; five great grandchildren, Berkeley and Banks Thacker, Carlee Jill Kern, Hayden and Wyatt Carroll. She was predeceased by four siblings, Ruth Jackson Strother of Marietta, GA, Milford Jackson of Gainesville, GA, Edna Jackson Horne of Rochester, MN, Arthur Jackson of Columbus, OH and many nieces and nephews.
