Mary Catherine "Shorty" Daniels

Mary Catherine "Shorty" Daniels, 91, died peacefully at Magnolia Manor in Americus, Georgia on April 10, 2017. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 11:00AM at West View Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 6:00PM-8:00PM at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola. Shorty was a member of Martha Bowman United Methodist Church. She came to Macon in 1945 & retired from Dan Tidwell Insurance Company in 1996. She loved sports & played lots of them, but basketball & softball were her favorites. In 1946 she was asked to come to Chicago & play short stop & pitch for the All American Girls Baseball League. She also played twice in the National Softball Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona. After she stopped playing she supported her Godchildren & their children. She is survived by her niece Mrs. Jo Jones of Americus; two great-nephews Jeff Jones (Dea) of Macon and Jason Jones of Cobb, Georgia; great-great nieces, Kate Jones and Amelia Squires; great-great nephews, London Jones and Hunt Squires; dear friend, Mrs. Daryl Lasseter of Macon; three Godchildren, Mrs. Chris Peake of Nashville, TN, Mrs. June Meeks (Bill) of Macon, and Jay Lasseter (Kim) of Macon.
