Mary Summerlin Mercer

Mary Summerlin Mercer passed away peacefully on December 6, 2016. Graveside services will be private at Riverside Cemetery with the Reverend Grace Guyton officiating. The family will host a visitation at Hart's at the Cupola between 5:00-7:00PM on Thursday, December 8, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vineville United Methodist Church, 2045 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204. Born on June 21, 1922 and raised in Columbus, Georgia, she was preceded in death by her father, John Alrie Summerlin, Sr. and mother, Maye Lynn Watkins. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, John Alrie Summerlin, Jr. and Richard Watkins Summerlin. She was married to Julian Perry Mercer, Jr. for 63 years before his death in 2004. Mrs. Mercer was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother (Nana), and great grandmother (Nana). Left to cherish her memories are her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Dr. Carl Schuessler of Macon; grandchildren, Carl Clifton Schuessler, Jr. (Missy) of Atlanta, Missy Schuessler Willingham (Martin) of Macon, Todd Mercer Schuessler (Laura Neill) of Marietta; great grandchildren, Mary Maybell Schuessler, Carl Clifton Schuessler, III, Judith Harriet Schuessler, all of Atlanta, Summer Lynn Willingham, Martin McGowan Willingham, Jr., Anna Mercer Willingham, all of Macon, and twins, Ayers Gingrey Schuessler and Lynn Mercer Schuessler, both of Marietta. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of John Wesley Villas where she was a resident for ten years. Also thanks to the staff and caregivers of Bolingreen Health and Rehabilitation.
