Mary Alice Lewis

Mary Alice Lewis, at the blessed age of 96, died at her home on Saturday, November 12, 2016. Funeral services will be at Ingleside Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 11:00AM, with Dr. Tim McCoy and Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. Mrs. Lewis was predeceased by her beloved husband of fifty-eight years, Dr. William Earl Lewis, her sister, Martha J. Mims, and brother, Johnny Jones. She had lived in Macon since 1936. Born in Twiggs County to John Homer Jones and Mattie Mae Floyd Jones, she was valedictorian of Attapulgus High School, was a graduate of GAB School of Commerce in Macon, and attended Mercer University. She was a founding member of Ingleside Baptist Church in 1951 and was continually active in Sunday school and missions work. She was a member of Vineville Garden Club and a past president of Baptist Women and of the Bibb County Medical Auxiliary. She was the epitome of a thankful, gracious, and loving woman of God. Survivors include two children, Stephen E. Lewis (Nancy) of Lizella and Karen L. Mitchell (Robert) of Greensboro, Georgia; five grandchildren, David A. Lewis (Julie) of Greensboro, Daniel E. Lewis (Cindy) of Macon, Dr. Robert E. Mitchell (Amy) of Hopkinton, New Hampshire, Todd L. Mitchell (Hannah) of Kirkland, Washington, and Christy Mitchell Cope (Jeffrey) of Greensboro; great-grandchildren: Miller Lewis, Matthew Lewis, Mary Katherine Lewis, Earl Mitchell, Lee Mitchell, Gracie Mitchell, and another great-grandson soon to be born; sister-in-law, Judy Lewis of Lizella; step-grandchildren, Brittany Nixon (Stephen) of Roberta; two step-great-grandchildren, Bryce and Brynleigh Nixon; and many nieces and nephews.
