Mary Kahler Harvey Bell, 83, of Athens passed away peacefully after a brief illness on June 26, 2024. She was born in Moultrie, Georgia on May 19, 1941, to the late John William Harvey, Sr. and Mildred Adams Harvey.

Kahler graduated from Moultrie High School in 1959 and attended Mercer University, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She married her college sweetheart, H.P. “Sonny” Bell, III, and was a caring, compassionate, devoted spouse and mother to her family. Kahler was a pillar of love and support with an unwavering, faith-filled spirit that allowed her to make a positive impact on her family and friends.

Kahler is survived by her son, Howell Phillip Bell, IV (Pam) of Barnesville, Georgia; son, David Kevin Bell (Jessica) of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Frederick Douglas Bell (Szilvia) of Athens and 3 grandchildren, Thomas Braxton Bell (Breanna) of Athens, Aidan Sammons Bell of Athens, and Sherrod David Bell of Athens; a sister, Bette Drake (Les) of Tallahassee, Florida and nephew, Jeff Drake (Kasey) of Tallahassee, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, H.P. “Sonny Bell, III and her brother, John William “Bill” Harvey, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, with a graveside service at 9:00 AM in the Riverside Cemetery North Gate block, Macon, Georgia with the Reverend Joe McDaniel officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Mercer University, 1501 Mercer University Drive, Macon, Georgia 31207 or Alps Road Presbyterian Church, 380 Alps Road, Athens, Georgia 30606.
