Macon- Mary Louise Dukes, of 5471 Thomaston Road, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010, the day before her 86th birthday. Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 2:00PM at Ingleside Baptist Church with Dr. Tim McCoy and Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating. The family may be contacted at the residence of Jane and Jimmy Williams, 823 Windsor Road, Macon, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Road, Macon, Georgia 31210 or to Stratford Academy, 6010 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31220. Mrs. Dukes, daughter of the late Percy Grey Shipp and the late Dorothea Schall Shipp, was predeceased by her husband, John Keller Dukes, Sr. She was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and taught Sunday School for ten years. Mrs. Dukes was a graduate of A. L. Miller High School and a magna cum laude graduate of Mercer University. She was listed in Who's Who Among Colleges and Universities and served as president of Alpha Delta Pi. Mrs. Dukes was a schoolteacher for more than thirty years in Macon, teaching first at Pearl Stephens and then teaching third grade at T. D. Tinsley and at Stratford Academy. She was an avid bridge player and worked as a volunteer with Meals On Wheels. Mrs. Dukes is survived by her children, Jane Dukes Williams (Jimmy) of Macon, John K. Dukes, Jr. (Susan) of Valdosta and Mary Dukes Stapleton (Chip) of Moultrie; sister, Betty Murphy of Macon; grandchildren, Angie W. Howell (Clay) of Atlanta, Jim Williams of Macon, John Dukes (Lauren) of Statesboro, Patrick Dukes of Valdosta, Leah Stapleton and Lindsey Stapleton, both of Moultrie; great-grandchildren, Mary Claire Howell and Anna Kate Howell, both of Atlanta, and John Keller Dukes IV of Statesboro.
