Macon- Mary Cashin Davis died suddenly on April 22, 2010. Mary was born on April 30, 1925 in Augusta, GA to Norma Rosa Markwalter Cashin and John Joseph Cashin, Jr. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Burton Davis, and her brother, George. She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn, Lucille, and Dorothy, and brothers, Jack and Henry, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Mary graduated from Mount Saint Joseph High School in Augusta, Georgia, and was employed by the Georgia Railroad Company until the time of her marriage on May 26, 1951 to Thomas Burton Davis of Savannah, Georgia. Together Mary and Tom raised six children, Kieran Davis Welton, Carol Davis Martino (Jim), Mary Davis Stevens (Dick), Patricia Louise Davis, Peggy Davis Roney (Robert) and Thomas B. Davis, Jr. (Julie). Grandchildren are Sharon Welton Oliver (Jack), Keith Welton (Amanda), Lisa Martino, James Martino II, Michelle Martino Skrzypek (Marcus), Elizabeth Stevens Morris (Allen), Taylor Stevens, Paul Roney, Matthew Roney, Katie Davis, Thomas B. Davis III, and great-grandchildren, Issac and Samantha Welton. Mary was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly during the annual trips to Saint Simons Island, when children and grandchildren filled the beach house with love, laughter, and chaos. She was an avid gardener and a great seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her children in their younger years. Since her husband's death almost two years ago, Mary had enjoyed being doted upon by her children and grandchildren, who made sure that her life remained full and active. Within hours of her apparent heart attack on Wednesday, the extended family had traversed from all points to the hospital, and Mary was surrounded by her children, their spouses, and grandchildren at the time of her death. Mary was an active member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church. The family will greet friends on Friday at 6:00PM at Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street, with a rosary following at 7:00PM. A funeral mass will celebrate Mary's life at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 9:30AM. Father Alan McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
