Mary Ann Comer

October 28, 1943 — June 25, 2025

Macon

Mary Ann (Sheppard) Comer passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Charleston, S.C., on October 28, 1943, Mary Ann lived a rich and spirited life filled with laughter, color, and love.

Known for her vivacious energy, quick wit, and spunky charm, Mary Ann never met a stranger. She lit up every room she entered — often in one of her signature hats — and left those around her feeling seen, uplifted, and loved. She found beauty in the simple things: a garden in bloom, the graceful flutter of a butterfly, or birds singing just outside her window.

Mary Ann is survived by her devoted son, Curtis Randall (Randy) Sheppard, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Sheppard of Johns Island, S.C.; her beloved grandson, Zachary A. Sheppard, and his wife, Samantha Sheppard of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; her husband, Richard D. Comer of Macon, Ga.; and many cherished friends and extended family — especially those at Watercrest Senior Living in Macon who brought joy and companionship to her final years.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Curtis Randall Sheppard, Sr.; her parents, John Howard Long and Ella Louise Long; and her sister, Johnnie Linda Norris.

Mary Ann adored being outdoors, and she and her husband Richard could often be found sitting side by side near the fountain at Watercrest, surrounded by blooming flowers — a setting that reflected the beauty and warmth of her own spirit. She never turned down a good laugh or a pomegranate martini, and even in her final days, she embraced life with gratitude and joy.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. — both at Hart’s Mortuary at The Cupola in Macon, Ga. A private burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome — as Mary Ann dearly loved them — or donations may be made in her honor to Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon.

Mary Ann leaves behind a legacy of light, laughter, and love. Her memory will live on in every blooming garden, every fluttering butterfly, and in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
