Mary E. Astumian, of Macon, died Saturday, January 10, 2015. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Allan McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park. The Rosary service will be held Tuesday at 6:00PM at Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street. Ms. Astumian was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mary's family moved to Macon from Orangeburg, SC when she was a teenager. She was a graduate of Mt. de Sales Academy and Wesleyan College. She remained very active in the Mt. de Sales Alumni Association. Ms. Astumian began her career at Robins Air Force Base as a research psychologist. She retired as Chief Equal Opportunity Counselor from Robins Air Force Base in January 1986 with 38 years of service. She worked hard to prevent workplace discrimination. She had a 99% resolution rate after working diligently to resolve problems affecting women and minorities. Her interests include gardening, cooking, playing poker and canasta, and entertaining at her residence. She was a very generous donor who loved to support many worthwhile organizations. She was predeceased by her parents, Nagipe and Sarah Astumian; two brothers, Raymond Astumian and Phillip Astumian; and sister, Shihedee Green. Ms. Astumian is survived by her beloved toy poodle, Misty; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
