Martha Barron Tidwell

March 15, 1915 — September 27, 2013

Martha Barron Tidwell, 98, affectionately known as "Nanny" to her family and their friends, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, went to be with The Lord on Friday, September 27, 2013. A celebration of her life will be held at Highland Hills Baptist Church on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 1:00PM with the Reverend Cass DuCharme officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Martha was born March 15, 1915 in Thomaston, Georgia to JT and Bess Barron. She was an honor graduate of R.E. Lee High School in Thomaston and also graduated with honors from Middle Georgia Hospital Nursing School in Macon, Georgia. After graduation she worked for the Red Cross Disaster Relief, the Xray Department at Middle Georgia Hospital and for Dr. Tom Harold. Martha and Dan Tidwell were married January 13, 1938, and were blessed with two children, Coleman Tidwell and Martha Ann Tidwell Kammerer. Martha was a charter member of Highland Hills Baptist Church where she remained an active member as long as her health permitted. She organized the Children's Church in earlier years. Martha was active in The Macon Civic Women's Club, Salvation Army Auxiliary, a founding member of the Historical Association and volunteered at the Sidney Lanier Visitor's Center. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dan Tidwell, her parents JT and Bess Barron, sisters Louise Barron and Edith Fortner of Thomaston, Georgia, brother Thomas Barron of Oxnard California and her daughter Martha Ann Tidwell Kammerer of Greensboro, Georgia. She is survived by her son, Coleman Tidwell (Hilda) of Macon, Granddaughter Lee Barrow (Mark), Grandsons Cole Tidwell (Monique) and Dan Tidwell (Ashley) all of Macon, Grandson Ed Kammerer, Jr. (Yvette) of Denver, CO, Granddaughter Maggie Cooper (Clay) of Rome, GA , Great-grandsons Mark Jr and Samuel Barrow, John Coleman and Cash Tidwell, great-granddaughters Barrett and Brennan Kammerer, Abigail, Emily and Vivian Cooper, son-in-law, Ed Kammerer, one sister, Rose Barron Wilson (Steve) of Raymond, MS, Sisters-in-law Ruth Wise, Mary Patterson, Hazel Snider, and June Barron, and many nieces and nephews.
