Martha Weaver Mckenzie

April 1, 1922 — April 19, 2010

Martha Weaver McKenzie, 88, of Macon died Monday, April 19, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Emmet Gardner McKenzie, Jr. and her parents, William Morgan Weaver and Edith Powell Weaver. A private memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church and family private burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Reverend Harriette Simmons will officiate. Mrs. McKenzie was a graduate of Wesleyan College and Assistant Dean of Women after graduation. A member of Christ Episcopal Church, she served as Altar Guild Chairman, Parish House Chairman, and was an active member of the Episcopal Church women. She was a founding member and officer of Town and Country Garden Club, later a member of the Rivoli Garden Club and the Sea Island Gardening Group. Mrs. McKenzie was President of the Junior League of Macon and an active member of the Macon Town committee of the Colonial Dames in the State of Georgia, a member of the Historic Macon Foundation, The Georgia Historical Society, the Historic Rose Hill Foundation, and a former member of the Macon History Club. She is survived by her daughter, Martha McKenzie McNeill and husband Robert John McNeill, III; a granddaughter, McKenzie McNeill Moore and husband Harry Francis Moore, Jr.; two grandsons, Robert John McNeill, IV, and William Taylor McNeill; a great granddaughter, Caroline Taylor Swan; a brother, Dr. William Hudnall Morgan Weaver and wife Bettie Hall Weaver; two first cousins, Mary Octavia Weaver, and Anne Weaver Paschal of Columbia, South Carolina. Donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 582 Walnut Street, Macon, GA 31201, Stratford Academy, 6010 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31220, or to the donor's choice. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John McNeill, 104 Idle Hour Drive on Wednesday, April 21st from 5:00-7:00PM. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory has charge of arrangements.
